Education for all
Everyone agrees that education is important and that child labour is a plague, but thousands of families in India have little choice. Many children are forced to start working at just six to seven years of age, and often in environments which are hazardous to their health. This deprives thousands of children across India of their natural development and the freedom to be just children.
Child Labour Elimination Program (CLEP)
Hand in Hand works for a special program, CLEP, which aims to identify all children who are working instead of going to school. These kids are located by “mobilisers”, people who live in the villages, and then incorporated into the school. The goal is to eliminate child labour and restore children’s lost childhood; to give less fortunate children the chance to start an education. The hope is that this will ultimately help to create harmonious, safe and happy children.

The Entrepreneurs in Koppampatti
Hoist Group has previously worked with Hand in Hand to fight poverty in the Indian village Koppampatti in Pudukkottai District in Tamil Nadu. The project aims to end child labour in the village, improve public schools and eliminate malnutrition among children. Through entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial training, female entrepreneurs, provided with external micro loans, are able to start businesses and create jobs.

The Organisation Hand in Hand
Through training in entrepreneurship, self-help groups and access to micro loans, Hand in Hand primarily helps women to start their own businesses. Thanks to the increased income, they can take themselves and their families out of poverty.
